This is the second of the Urban Conversations series, the first of which was 'do you feel my hate?'. The title of the series came from the inspiration of listening to different conversations in different parts of the city. One hears people talking all the time, on trains, buses, coffee shops, on the pavements, sitting somewhere, one can never know what is going on. The idea was what if one chanced upon two strangers speaking in the middle of their coversation, how much can one really know what is going on?
This play was staged in the classroom at the second level of The Substation with characters using the two doors as entrances and exits.
Two of the actresses were from my acting class at the sub, another two were long time collaborators and the last two were actors who audutioned for the play.
The room itself was extremely small taking up to about twenty audience members which made performing much more difficult due to the proximity. Typically the success of a play is judged by the number of its audience, but sometimes a large audience dilutes the proximity between the actor and the audience. Proximity engenders a kind of mental and emotional interaction between the actor and audience.
The production was nominated for the Life! Theatre Awards for Best Script and Supporting Actor. This play was presented as part of The Substation's Sept Fest 2001.
